What a difference a year makes. Last year, with the onset of the worst health pandemic in over 100 years, confidence in the economic outlook sank quickly and deeply. Now, according to the first quarter 2021 results, bank respondents provided a brighter economic outlook for their banks.
The number of bank executives responding that economic conditions for their bank had improved leaped an impressive 38 percentage points since last quarter.
Looking to the year ahead, a majority of bankers (57%) expected economic conditions for their banks to continue to improve, a 19-point climb from the previous quarter. Only 14% anticipated conditions to worsen over the coming year.
